John Dutton’s absence was obvious, and it made waves in the entertainment world. It turns out Grimes and Costner haven’t spoken since Costner left. This has, of course, led to people wondering if there was some kind of falling out.

But Grimes gave a pretty simple explanation. “No, I haven’t talked to him since,” Grimes said. “It’s not a case of any hard feelings or anything; it’s just, he’s Kevin Costner. [Laughs] He’s a big deal.” This seems to put to bed any rumors of a feud.

Grimes also said that while he has Costner’s number, he doesn’t feel it’s right for him to reach out first. “I just don’t feel like it’s my place to reach out. He can reach out to me if he wants to,” he explained. This shows respect for Costner and gives him the choice of whether or not to stay in contact.

The suddenness of Costner’s departure also changed how the show went forward. “None of us saw it coming the way it did, and obviously there was news about possible blowups behind the scenes or whatever,” Grimes admitted. This acknowledges the rumors of problems behind the scenes that led to Costner leaving.

Grimes then compared what happened on Yellowstone to real life. “But just like in life, man, these things happen, they happen fast, and they’re not predictable,” he said. He even shared a personal story about losing his father suddenly. “I lost my father a few years ago. It happened fast, and it was not the way that you would think that that would happen. In life, these things happen and then people have to start making decisions.”

This personal story helps us understand Grimes’s point of view. He knows that life can throw unexpected challenges, and sometimes things change suddenly. This seems to have helped him deal with Costner’s departure and the changes to Yellowstone.

Finally, Grimes talked about how Costner leaving changed the show’s story. “And in our little Yellowstone world, that helped ramp the show up into a boil,” he said. This suggests that while it was a big change, it also created new story possibilities and made the drama more intense.

Basically, Luke Grimes’s comments give a realistic view of Kevin Costner’s exit from Yellowstone. It doesn’t sound like there’s any bad blood, just the ups and downs of life and show business. The show continues, and it looks like Yellowstone is doing just fine.
